EUDA Technology Foresight Workshop

The first technical meeting under EUDA’s 2026 presidency of the Justice and Home Affairs Agency Network explored the development of resilient communities and the management of cross-cutting risks at the interface of health, security, and technology.

EUDA are progressing Technology Foresight in the drugs field: mapping and assessing the future challenges and new opportunities for innovative response created by the introduction of new technologies in the drugs area. Professor Alex Bladacchino and Dr Mitka (Co-Directors, IDEAS St Andrews) are actively involved in this work.

Professor Alex Bladacchino and Dr Mitka (Co-Directors, IDEAS St Andrews) and Moira Mackenzie (Deputy Chief Executive Officer/Director of Innovation, Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre) contributed Scottish expertise throughout the 2-day programme. Alex gave a keynote presentation on innovation in addiction medicine to open the meeting. Gosia and Moira represented Scottish addiction innovation leadership and expertise.

We explored how rapidly evolving technologies will intersect with health, security and society in the years ahead. Through our experience of driving innovation and our systems-focused lens, we highlighted the value of looking beyond individual technologies to consider the long‑term social, ethical, environmental and technological developments and their implications on our countries and communities.
